Industry claims 96 percent of LA harbor outbound cargo from California oil
The Chamber of Mines and Oil research bureau reports that California oil provided 82 percent of LA harbor’s total cargo by tonnage in the year ending June 30 1928 and 62 percent of harbor revenue. About 19 million tons of the 20 million net tons were petroleum and products, with plans discussed for a large case oil terminal to export sealed petroleum in tin. The harbor hosts major oil loading facilities capable of handling multiple tank steamers, averaging five loads per day and up to fifty-two in a week.
