The city will pave Main street sidewalks at once after Mayor George E. Huguley met with business owners. A solid path from the depot to Stafford's Shoe Shop and from Reeves Boys to Cochran's corner will improve the town, cost little, and speed growth.
The Gordon Institute reports a thriving spring term with about 320 pupils enrolled so far. Elections for anniversarian elected Hulon H. Howard of Putman county, who will represent Lysian and Eunonian societies at the twenty sixth anniversary in April. The music department, led by Mrs. James M. Cochrane and Miss Mary W. Lovelace, shows growth with new pianos and plans for a record Commencement program. The physical culture class has sixty girls and thirty five elocution students, taught by Miss M. Kathryn Lockhart. The military department, under Lieut. Palmer, trains over one hundred boys for duty, with new uniforms arriving soon. A new chapel and auditorium are under construction as Barnesville anticipates its completion.
Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Connally and Miss Roberta Mitchell improve after illness. Frank M. Stafford and Capt. E. J. Murphey recover from lagrippe, with others like Mrs. Pixley, Mrs. Arnold, Mrs. Spruce, Mrs. Vandivere, Mrs. Brittain and Milton W. Smith also reported better. Children and adults in Barnesville show slow to steady convalescence and cautious hope.
Dr William A Wright endorses DeWitt's Little Early Risers as soothing and strength enhancing small pills. The copy describes them as effective without irritation.
The Barnesville community welcomes the decision to keep H. P. Powell as cashier of the Barnesville Savings Bank. He is praised for his qualifications, reliability, and the added strength and popularity he has brought to the bank.
The issue highlights statements from the New South Savings Bank and the Barnesville Savings Bank. Both banks are described as in excellent condition, with Barnesville able to congratulate itself on having two strong financial institutions.
The Epworth League held a Friday evening business meeting at Rev. W. S. Stevens Parsonage to elect officers and conduct league affairs. Col. N. Woodward was named president with Carl Monk as first vice president Emma Blalock as second vice president R. S. Stevens as third vice president May Lambdin secretary and Edgar L. Cook treasurer. The group praised past work and expressed confidence in future usefulness.
A force of workmen has spent the past week erecting posts for the electric light system and nearly all are in place. Work on the light network is progressing rapidly and the plant will soon be in operation.
