Fodder Pulling in Southern Farms Georgia Experiment Station
The Georgia Experiment Station analyzes fodder pulling to weigh labor against fodder yields and corn loss. Results vary by year and soil. 1890 favored pulling while 1891 showed a small loss. On fresh soils fodder yield can compensate corn loss, but overall practice should be selective. The note recommends stripping blades and later cutting tops for best fodder yield.
Rain gauge construction and scale details
In reply to inquiries we present a rain gauge design AB drawn at one inch to four inches. Made from tin galvanized sheet iron or copper. Four inch funnel opening, rim one inch deep. The well is two inches in diameter and 10 12 or 14 inches deep. A twelve inch depth holds three inches of rainfall. One inch of rainfall yields four inches depth in the well. A wooden scale strip marks divisions 1 2 8 with each inch equal to four inches on scale.
