Bryan Bailey debate in Atlanta urged by Constitution editors
The Constitution editors argue that a joint debate between William Jennings Bryan and Texas Senator Bailey would illuminate tariff differences and broaden southern political thought. They say divergence of opinions is no longer a crime and urge both leaders to debate on neutral ground, highlighting the growing South skepticism of party orthodoxy and call for open issue discussion.

Letters From People Mexican War Medals
Editor Constitution. In stating that O D Norwood of Tront county possessed the only medal awarded for bravery at the battle of Vera Cruz, a dispatch in your paper from LaGrange Wee erroneous. W D Roberts, of LaGrange, has wns Presented to his father, Second Lieutenant Alex A. Roberts, of company A, Palmetto regiment, South Carolina. The medal is of gold, about the size of a silver dollar. It bears the coat of arms of South Carolina and on the reverse side is an engraving of a body of South Carolina troops marching under the flag of the Palmetto State. Around the edge are the names of the battles In which Lieutenant Robert participated Vera Cruz, Contreras, Cherubusco, Chapultepec and Garris de Boton. There was no distinction made in the award of medals by South Carolina. Eleven of the 320 survivors of the Palmetto regiment received a medal. Those awarded the officers were of gold while those given the men were of silver. The State selected no one soldier as being braver than the rest. All were honored alike. The silver urn presented by the Indians of South Carolina to General Andrew Jackson for his bravery at the battle of New Orleans and left in his will to the state of South Carolina to be presented to the bravest soldier who enlisted from that state for service in the next foreign war is still in possession of the state. There was no bravest soldier in the estimation of South Carolinians. I write this simply to keep the record straight. East Point.
