A semi circular fountain seventy feet wide and sixty five feet deep supports a Columbus statue on the prow of a ship with a grand cloak. The site is the Plaza in front of Union Station. The Knights of Columbus raised funds and Congress provided an additional 100000 dollars for memorial construction. The project features a stone shaft with a world globe, a Spirit of Discovery figurehead, and dramatic allegorical figures of the New and Old World. About 80000 Knights of Columbus plan to attend the unveiling with massed processions from across the country and a public banquet on June 8 attended by Taft and cabinet members.
