Trial of Former Judge Loving Ends Rapidly in Murder Case

The trial of former judge W. C. Loving for the murder of Theodore Estes, following a buggy ride with Loving’s daughter, progressed with the prosecution resting by afternoon. Railroad Life Saving Medals Awarded by Roosevelt

President Roosevelt via the Interstate Commerce Commission awards railroad life saving medals to Charles Arms of Clarksville Tennessee and Edgar B. George of Parsons Pennsylvania for heroic actions during a Cumberland River drawbridge plunge. Arms saved three men clinging to submerged cars while George aided a Polish boy and helped others escape injuries.

Tuberculosis Victims Barred From Entering Texas

Juma 24. All persons with tuberculosis in an advanced state will be barred from entering Texas. Dr W W Brumby Texas health officer says a proclamation establishing a rigid quarantine against all afflicted will be issued within days. He compares the disease to yellow fever and smallpox. Cather to Fight Two Cent Fare At Asheville Hearing

Washington June 24 special railroads to be represented in full force at Asheville Wednesday as Judge Pritchard reviews injunctions restraining North Carolina from reducing passenger fares. Southern railway leads a large legal team including Finley Hines Thom and Worthington plus traffic managers and state counsel. Fourteen states have moved for fare reductions and the case could reach the U S Supreme Court for constitutional ruling on rate reduction acts.

Railroad 18 Enjoined In North Carolina Case

Asheville June 24 Judge Pritchard granted a temporary injunction at Cravath Henricson Gersgorff and Tilat representation to bar the Carolina and Western railroad company and the North Carolina corporation commission from enforcing the two and a quarter cent rate law set to take effect July 1 The injunction is returnable Saturday and may affect other related railroad cases of the same principle

16 Year Old Boy Accused in Balmaceda Killing

In Brussels the trial of Carlos Waddington, son of Senor Luis Waddington, opened for the murder of Balmaceda, secretary of the Chilean legation, February 24. Balmaceda had just told of withdrawing from the engagement to Miss Waddington, alleged improprieties cited by Balmaceda, and the son then shot Balmaceda after confrontation at Balmaceda’s friend’s home. The Balmaceda family claims pressure to wed led to the plan to remove him.

Steamer Santiago Does Down in Sea Disaster

The coasting steamer Hantiago of 1366 tons, trading Panama to South America, wrecked fifty miles north of Corral in heavy surf. One passenger and one officer saved. the remainder of passengers and crew reported perished. The vessel carried primarily freight with traders as passengers and a largely South American crew.

Prohibition Wins Big In Lowndes County Vote

In Lowndes County Georgia the prohibition landslide produced 1 783 total votes with 1 206 for prohibition and 487 against. Saloons will have one month to close stocks. Antiprohibition leaders faltered while dry supporters packed the Methodist church tonight. Brass bands were persuaded to skip playing and many voters queued in lines outside polling places.
