Porter Charlton, arrested in Hoboken after stepping from a liner, confessed to beating his wife Mary Castle to death in Italy with a mallet and sinking her body in Lake Como. The couple had sailed for their honeymoon. she was 37, he 21. Charlton claimed temper and incompatibility ended the marriage.
W J Oliver of Knoxville has secured 118 acres and will complete the Savannah Augusta and Northern line from Statesboro to Louisville and extend to Athens.
