Georgia Graduates Receive Diplomas at Athens Commencement
At the University of Georgia in Athens on June 17 the 114th commencement honored the first woman to earn a degree, Mary Dorothy Lyndon, who completes an A B after summer study in education. Eighteen veterans of the Confederate era received diplomas after fifty years away from campus, along with many other graduates in fields from agriculture to civil engineering and arts. Notable attendees included Walter McDonald, a blind student, and Loyd Worrell of Transvaal, South Africa, who earned a master’s degree in agriculture. The exercises featured speeches by four seniors and a valedictory by D. K. McKamy, with numerous honors awarded for excellence across disciplines.

Felder Rumored for U S District Attorney Post
Washington June 17 Special. The suggested appointment of Thomas S Felder of Macon as successor of Alex Akerman as district attorney has made little headway. Senator Smith denied knowledge of moving Felder from the short term senatorial race and warned against federal office interference in state politics. Department of Justice said Felder’s name was not under consideration. West claimed ignorance of the move. Other items note government printing of school books to cut costs and debate over a Shackleford good roads bill with funding distribution among states. Bartlett’s health may force withdrawal from the congressional race. Gordon Lee to attend Chickamauga dedication. Georgians in Washington include E B Brown, Thomas Eason, and Frank Howell.
