Watseka Illinois July 19 State's Attorney Pallisard reports a special grand jury will examine the murder of J B Sayler at Crescent City. New evidence includes a sealed packet with a letter from Dr Miller to Mrs Sayler and a shirtwaist allegedly hidden under a carpet linking Mrs Sayler to the crime. A revolver found with Sayler’s son-in-law is tied to the fatal injuries as investigators probe whether Sayler was seated on his chest when he died.
In Charlotte on July 19 James Bivens killed his brother David with a hoe after hearing his wife scream in a cotton field. James surrendered to Goldsboro authorities and was released on $200 bond for the August term. The motive remains unknown. The dead man’s wife testified the killing was justifiable.

From Creston at 10 oclock this noon three negro workers were buried alive by a sudden embankment collapse while toiling on a Atlantic railroad project. Two were recovered dead and a third died shortly after. In Philadelphia, Fernanda Wanamaker, daughter of Rodman Wanamaker, announced engagement to Artrero Heeren of Paris. The tragedy prompted prosecutions and questions about the incident as investigators review the fight and self inflicted wounds amid the collapse and rescue attempts.
Orville Wright made two successful flights at Fort Myer Virginia. The first lasting 25 minutes 18 seconds covered about five sixtieths of a mile with 37 miles total distance in 55 minutes. The second flight lasted half an hour and reached 150 feet with 41 miles per hour indicated by Wilbur Wright.
