Southern View on Negro Industrial Equality
A southern speaker argues that black Americans achieved greater industrial equality in the South than the North, citing roles in brickwork and carpentry and contrasting northern emphasis on civil rights with southern focus on economic opportunity. He calls for continued industrial equality to ensure real freedom, praising Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation as a basis for ongoing work rights. The piece emphasizes long-standing Southern practice of integrating blacks into skilled labor and warns against northern ideas that expand rights at the bottom without employment.
