Taught to Smoke by Her Husband in Nuptial Agreements
The case centers on two nuptial agreements related to a Mrs Lemp and her husband. One bound her not to interfere in religious training of a child until age eight, while a parallel document, witnessed by a Roman Catholic archbishop, restrained Mr Lemp from objecting to the child’s religious rites. The Lemps’ lawyers claim the second agreement postdates and supersedes the first. A letter found among Mr Lemp’s papers refers to “My Dear Little Pal” and notes a trip hunting next week, a line Mrs Lemp said she did not write and that she had uncovered tampering with private correspondence. She admitted rifling the letters but said the note was placed to mislead Mr Lemp. she also said the row over the letter’s author was a matter of mistaken tampering.
