Fatal Roadside Killing Sparks Self Defense Plea
In Winterville, farmer J We Wallace was killed Wednesday afternoon by Willi J Fleeman Jr amid a quarrel over road work. Fleeman claims self defense after Wallace threatened him with a knife. a rock was hurled, striking Wallace and killing him. One witness, Jep Hammond, stood by. Wallace, about 45, had recently moved in. Fleeman has lived in the area for years. That night, the Winterville post office was burglarized through a window but nothing was taken. the window was left open and blinds raised. A $50 reward was offered for the burglar’s capture.
