Athens Fire Devours Cotton Compress In Massive Blaze

A historic Athens fire engulfed the Rucker cotton compress last night, destroying about 2100 of 6600 bales of cotton and threatening adjacent warehouses. Firefighters and volunteers battled the blaze for hours, saving most buildings and hundreds of thousands in goods, with repairs and rebuilding planned for the affected area. Local heroes and the Athens fire department earned praise for halting the spread as the city watched in alarm.

Death of Mrs B C Prather Funeral Today

Yesterday morning Mrs B C Prather died after a long illness. Known as Miss Yarborough, she was beloved locally and her funeral was to be held at ten this morning at the residence. An advertisement for One Minute Cough Cure claims it cures throat troubles by liquifying mucus and removing the cause of illness.
