In Waterbury Connecticut Michael D Russell a saloonkeeper was arrested for liquor law violations. Seven patrons were also taken into custody amid a loud mob. Russell was fined 75 plus costs, plus a three month jail term. he appealed bonds set at 200 dollars. The judge ejected him after a confrontation.
Hawaiian authorities refused Sir Idley Coote’s bid for an exclusive cable from Japan to Hawaii, citing no support for backing English syndicates or American subsidies. Meanwhile judges in Indianapolis heard receiver arrangements in a separate railroad case as a Mobile to Kansas City link progresses toward completion.

The remains of Mr. Thomas Hughes died at Brighton on Sunday last were interred Wednesday in the presence of friends and admirers. The funeral followed his wishes, and the grave was adorned with ivy as many attended to pay respects to the deceased.

New York news despatch reports J W Horton of Ottewah Tennessee claims the President Cleveland birthplace should not be torn down and offers stock in a plan worth $1000. Horton says he once lived in the Lincoln homestead in Decatur Illinois where a Chicago buyer charged admission and made forty thousand dollars. The First Presbyterian church in Caldwell, Cleveland, has no plan to remove the building.

The second seeks 1 883 000 unpaid interest on bonds of branches in North Dakota South Dakota Montana Idaho and Washington.

Pittsburg scientist Professor R A Fessenden of the Western University and Professor James Keeler have devised a simple x ray measuring meter. In a tube the two wires half an inch apart connect to a voltmeter charged with paraffin. electricity discharge on nonconductor shows the ray current. No unit for x rays chosen yet but likely soon. Deterior, March 25. Matthew Weidenbach proprietor of a saloon and grocery on Gratiot avenue was found dead, investigation underway into cause and circumstances by local authorities.
The Athens area expands its telephone network with a line from Harmony Grove to Maysville and planned connections to Georgia Factory and nearby towns. Jefferson to Athens and Harmony Grove to Jefferson already completed. A private line to Capt. John R. White’s residence is queued for material delivery and installation. The Bell company plans an Athens to Atlanta line later this year alongside the Seaboard Rail line.
Yesterday Colonel Robert S. Howard, acting as auditor, heard evidence in the suits on bonds of C I Mell and W A McElhannon for the Farmers Alliance Warehouse and Commission Company. Mell bondsmen are his two brothers for 6000 dollars. McElhannon bond is 4000 dollars with his father T A McElhannon as bondsman of Jefferson.
A prominent Athens citizen urged holding all Democratic party questions and contests in a single early primary. He argued that the community’s best interests require one primary day and supported June 6 as recommended by the State Committee.
Yesterday in mayor's court Judge Foster presided for the first time in the case of the city versus J. H. Richards. Richards was found guilty of disorderly conduct and fined ten dollars plus costs. A preliminary hearing in the case of the State versus W. D. Kelly for assault and battery was scheduled for 3 PM this afternoon.
Clarke Superior Court returned a very light civil docket on Tuesday with few cases filed, leaving Clerk Kenney hopeful but disappointed.
