Judge Rules George Labor Contract Law Unconstitutional
In a three day Superior Court session Judge Russell sustained a demurrer in the state case against W. P. Price involving the George labor contract law approved December 17, 1901. The act, restricting employment contracts to tenants or proper persons, was deemed unconstitutional and void for multiple reasons, including conflicting with the title and public policy, and for being class legislation. The decision, a Western circuit ruling, halts further state appeal in this circuit and tests the law in state courts for the first time since its passage. George, a proponent of the contract law, faces a heavy setback.
