Death of Mrs Abner Cooley Former Athens Citizen
Mrs Abner Cooley died Friday at West Liberty Iowa from a complication of disease. She was seventy two and born in Athens April 18 1837. She married Abner Cooley in 1852 and eight children were born. Surviving are three children and her husband plus siblings Col G C W Baker and Mrs Eugene Wright. Funeral at the Athens Methodist Church with interment at the new cemetery.

Fill on Fire at Sunny Side Back Yard
For years Jacob Wehr of Sunny Side has a large All in his back yard. About twenty five feet of rubbish and dirt were piled and a fresh load of old paper added last week. He set fire to the paper and watched it burn. After days smoke appeared from cracks in the ground. Investigations showed the fill was smouldering. Deep holes were filled with water to check the fire.

In Mayor's Court, a warrant was issued Wednesday morning by Mayor Davis on complaint of Susan Hall for the arrest of her husband Fred Hall and Nora Beekman for adultery. They waived examination, Beekman released on her own recognizance, Hall ordered to bond in the sum of 100, or be jailed.

Passengers on the Hocking Valley train from Athens were witness to a violent incident near Beaumont when Conductor Galvin struck John Goens in the head in the ladies coach. Goens was wounded by broken glass and bleeding, later jailed in Nelsonville and fined ten dollars plus costs after being handed over to police.

Fearl Newman Released After Bond For Pocket Picking
Fearl Newman arrested at the Coolville fair on pocket picking was bound over to the common pleas court for 4200. He was released on Tuesday with his sister Mrs. Elenora Bosworth of Crestline securing the release. Newman from Crestline comes from a prosperous, well known family. his father is an attorney and justice of the peace. Mrs. Elenora Bosworth and H. S. Reutinger acted as sureties on the bond.

James Brown a 32 year old section hand for Hocking Valley was struck and killed by B and O S W line train at Cemetery street crossing.
