The Athens county fair weather improves as Wednesday warms and more horses appear ringside. Yesterday’s racing produced hot heats in the 9:16 trot won by Spring Lock, while Nellie G appears poised to win the 2:25 pace with multiple firsts and seconds. The 2:40 pace also structures to a close with Rock holding second. Kid Murphey and Lady P place in the field. The prize drill by K of P units from Nelsonville Glouster and Athens awards Athens a 66 dollar top prize, with Nelsonville and Glouster earning runner up money. The judging pleased the crowd as Athens boys outrank others in drill performance.

Whirlwind the fastest horse in Athens county owned by Warren Brothers won the 2:20 pace at Marietta on Saturday in a dominant display. The gelding trailed far behind the winner, with the fastest heat clocked at 2:31. The horse is also progressing in a 1:07 pace split, and his 3:20 pace at the fair grounds today will attract close attention.

Fritch Arrested Over Hotel Draft in Gallipolis Case
Arman, alias Fritch of a Philadelphia medical supply house, was arrested last Saturday on charges of absconding money from hotel keeper Bryani in Gallipolis. He obtained an $80 draft to cover his board, the hotel paid, andBryan later sued. Justice Logan ordered Fritch returned for trial. The traveling sales firm refused to honor drafts. Fritch kept under guard at the hotel until Gallipolis could proceed. The draft was later honored, ending the dispute.
