The Athens county board of elections met Saturday and organized with G. D. Ride mar and G. W. Rose Republicans and Frank Herrold and S. D. Webb Democrats. Rose became deputy. Two Republican candidates, Rose Carpenter and D. R. Richards, drew lots for clerk. Carpenter won, Harris endorsed by Democrats won the clerk position by lot after Harris tossed.

Driver Horribly Injured in Mining Accident at Derthick
William Lane, 19, a driver at No. 10 mine in Derthick, was crushed when a coal car ran over him after a crash on a sharp curve. Doctors performed both arm and leg amputations, with Lane surviving the operation and expected to recover. He is son of Thomas Lane living near No. 6 mine near Glouster.
