Weather Outlook With Slight Chance of Showers

Rocky Brands CEO Change Ties to Q1 2015-16 Results

Rocky Brands posted a first quarter 2015 net income of 57.5 million in sales of 65.5 million. For Q2 2016 the company reported a 1.8 million net loss versus 2 million income in 2015, with 62.6 million in net sales. Warmer weather and higher Puerto Rico factory costs hurt first-half profitability, and about 20 local employees were laid off in Nelsonville and Hocking County. A company spokeswoman said sales team cuts were also made nationwide, with about 3 million in annualized expense reductions expected. David Brooks stepped down as CEO and is replaced by David Sharp effective July 1, 2011, with Sharp serving as CEO and president.

Armory plans spark debate on redevelopment and parking

At a community center meeting Athens leaders discussed converting the Armory for arts and tourism use. Topics included cost estimates up to 1 million for infrastructure, potential partnerships with Ohio University and local businesses, and concerns over parking availability near Broney's and the Armory.

Athens Mold & Machine revival lands multiple grants

Athens Mold & Machine returns to production with support from state and regional groups. Grants of 40000 from AEP Ohio and 50000 from Columbia Gas, plus 50000 from Southern Ohio Agricultural and Community Development Fund, back the project. JobsOhio allocates 300000 and ARC 500000 for roadwork aiding the site. A 10 year 60 percent tax exemption was approved for improvements. The effort involved local officials, Congressmen Stivers and Portman, and community partners.
