Albany Faces Destructive Prairie Fire Threat Amid Dry Spell
Sept 5 Albany residents fought a broad prairie blaze fed by dry wind and parched ground. Fire spread across half a mile of land, damaging a Wilson orchard and threatening the town. Firefighters, led by Garvey Deffee and Frack Barnes, contained the flames before larger losses. Sixty nine patients from Athens State Hospital will be moved to the state hospital at Dayton today due to Massillon State Hospital completion.
