Relatives in Athens county receive details of Leopold Friday s sudden death in Munich Bavaria on August 12 after being struck by two street cars as he crossed a street. He died of pneumonia following injuries. Born July 13 1842 near Nuremberg he came to America in 1864 and lived in Cincinnati Nashville Memphis and the Dakota Territory before settling in Ohio. He married Julia Zenner in 1878 and was a member of Masons Royal Arch and other orders. He was devoted to family and friends and his passing deeply grieved the community.

Born 1859 in Wilkesville Vinton County he taught school aged 16 and later worked in fire insurance before entering politics and journalism. He served as clerk of courts of Vinton County elected 1891 and edited the McArthur Democrat Enquirer and the Athens Journal. Survived by wife Clarissa Chapman and two daughters Mrs. Sprague and Mrs. Bean. private funeral held at his home conducted by Rev. G W King, interment in the new cemetery.
