Lena Mades in Phillips reports that Miss Phillips recently returned from an international BPW conference in Paris. She says women’s clubs tackle too many tasks from peace to crime prevention and smoke abatement, yet rarely finish any project.
The year’s meeting of the Men’s Music Club at Mrs Fred Park Place included a short business session and a program by Misses Mary Blaney Osie Druggan and Frances, with interpretive performances by Edith Nelson Eddy Milstein Eliz Berg. Talks followed, featuring Handel Bach Purcell and other works, with students from East Side Sixth Grade attending.
Mrs. L C Staats outlined the year’s work at the East Side P T A study group meeting. New Patterns in Sex Education will be added to the course. Mrs. Mary LaBaw will host the November gathering.

Miss Frances Metcalf daughter of Clyde Metcalf and wife at 23 Richland Avenue was feted with a surprise birthday party at her home on Saturday night marking her twentieth birthday. Decorations were green and white and refreshments included sandwiches and cider with contests as entertainment. Gifts included a collar knitted by her 84 year old grandmother Ruth Metcalf. Guests included Janis Tom Tona Rowland Leona Rowland Louise Tribe Lillian Radford Dorothy Baker Anna Mae Dyar Helen Metcalf Wallace Gillogly Leonard Davies Floyd McDaniel Ford Cucculi Myron Zoas Arnold Wolfe Stanley Wolfe and Clarence Stalder.
Mr and Mrs J W Whaley entertained the Athens County auditor s office staff and spouses at a six o clock dinner on Friday Oct 2 Those present included Mr and Mrs C O Gibson Mr and Mrs Lewis Russell Mr and Mrs Ralph Elliott Mrs Grace Riley Miss Erma Betts and the hosts Dinner was served by Goldie Lehoe and Betty Hudwell J W Long of Athens will speak at the Shade Parent Teacher Association meeting in the Shade School Auditorium Also scheduled are speakers running for Board of Education along with special music
