Alexander Local District on a Tax Levy Edge
Alexander Local School District faces dissolution if a proposed 10 mill levy fails on November ballots. The district, formed in 1964 from a merger, struggles with inflation and rising costs after a years-long scrimping. A citizens committee urged the levy to fund a mandated education program, offsetting increased teacher salaries and transportation costs. Superintendent Mark Lohr and staff face funding gaps without voter approval.

Facts of Life in Alexander School Levy Explained
Proponents define ten mills as vital for Alexander Laval School District to “get back on its feet” with a $190,000 revenue boost based on a $19 million tax base. Utilities would bear about two thirds of the burden, and bond retirements reduce the tax impact over time. If defeated, district operations could halt mid‑November, with schools reopening only after new revenue sources in 1870 and possible dissolution of the district, sending students to nearby systems such as Athens city and Nelsonville‑York. Charles Shaner and Citizens Committee urge informed questions.
