A Friday forenoon gathering on the University campus in Athens drew about two thousand Republicans. Senator Hanna and party, including Laylin and Douglas, spoke on prosperity and state issues. General Grosvenor introduced Hanna who received a tumultuous ovation as students and residents praised the party’s platform and leadership.

Double tragedy of W L Walden a Marietta merchant
W L Walden a Coolville born commission merchant near Marietta died by self destruction last week by jumping into the Muskingum river. His body was recovered Tuesday after an earlier suicide attempt with a gun. He leaves a wife Elizabeth Hope and both parents in Coolville. Funeral services were held in Marietta. The obituary notes prior suicide attempt and a long business tenure as a commission merchant.

Murray Anderson Breaks Collar Bone in University Scrimmage
Murray Anderson a university student from Chillicothe fractured his collar bone during a scrimmage on the university field last evening. He was taken to the office of Drs. Alderman and Biddle where the fracture was reduced and bandaged. Anderson is not a team member, honoring his parents wishes despite his love for the sport.
