Athens Bulldogs remain unbeaten at 12-0 and 8-0 in SECAL after defeating Logan 3-1 at Logan Memorial Stadium. Logan pressed early with Bukky's tying goal, but Goetz and Davis struck late for Athens sealing the win and a share of the league crown.
Athens remains in the SECAL chase after Kate Moulton scored the lone goal in a 1-0 girls soccer win over Logan at R. Basil Butter Field. Maddie Davis set up the decisive chance late, keeping Athens 5-1 in league play and one win from sharing the title with Jackson, who clinched at least a share after routing Alexander. The Bulldogs moved the ball forward midway through the second half and finally converted, as Logan pressured but could not find an equalizer.
Trimble High School plans the 2015 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 6 30 p m Thursday in the high school. Inductees are Don Holbert Wayne Kirby Ryan McClelland and Trent Patton. Holbert class of 1959 earned letters in basketball baseball and football and has coached Trimble Township for over 50 years starting in 1963.
In Jackson, the Alexander Spartans edged the Jackson Ironmen 1-0 in a tense match decided by a late penalty kick. Coach Kirk Crow noted Jackson’s home difficulty, while Lee Lord praised his players Devon Ball and Reason Padgett for pressuring the Spartan defense. See Alexander on page A7.
Trimble improves to 15-4 overall and 12-1 in the TVC Hocking after a 25-17 25-16 25-23 win over Eastern. Nikki Kish led with 21 kills, Morgan Murphy 9 kills and 18 service points as the Tomcats aim for a league title with three key matches next week.
