In Nelsonville on Nov 17 Parker Chatman 71 was shot dead by his son in law Henry Peters at the Chatman home after a dispute over a torn book and a five cent debt. Peters fled into the woods as police searched the area and a statewide lookout was issued to find him.

In a Tuesday night incident Bob Swett broke toward Sheriff Murphy at the Sauk jail, overwhelmed by the sheriff in a struggle, and was locked inside the jail as Mrs Murphy and the sheriff's force restrained him. Swett, intoxicated, demanded a shoe knife said to be left in jail, and vowed to return.

A northbound Kanawha and Ohio freight train derailed at Grosvenor crossing near 3 AM Monday, six coal cars left the track and two overturned the engine No. 503. The wreck caused about $5,000 in damage. the derailment was blamed on a passing West on the railroad who failed to mark the fuel. No lives were reported lost.
