Budgeting lessons at Messenger Cooking School

Mrs Frances Northcross spoke at the Messenger Cooking School concluding session in the High School Auditorium on budgeting for home happiness. She urged teaching children the value of money, giving small allowances, and saving part of it to prevent later marital tension. Warden to oversee execution on birthday anniversary

Ohio Penitentiary warden P E Thomas will supervise the execution of Charles Hoppe Toledo child murderer on November 20 marking Thomas fifty sixth birthday. Hoppe’s appeal to the U S Supreme Court was denied and the state fixed November 30 for death. Thomas said it will be a brief 15 minute job and his birthday will not be marred. The execution comes the day after Thanksgiving.

Bad Weather Sinks Liner Vestris Off Virginia Capes

New York dispatch reports chief officer Frank Johnson testified in a federal investigation that exceptionally bad weather caused the Lamport & Holt liner Vestris to sink off the Virginia Capes, with 214 lives lost. Woman stabs three men in mental lapse in Cincinnati

Miss Katharine Hearn 35 saleswoman stabbed three men on downtown Cincinnati streets while under police observation. Victims Stanley Holtman 25 Covington Kentucky seriously hurt, George Liebfarth 29 and Dante Mastropaolo 19 knocked to ground. Patrolman Warwick Behymer captured Hearn after the third assault. Lost Dayton Girl Found in Cincinnati

Dayton police traced 14 year old Margaret Slater of 225 Virginia Avenue Dayton after she vanished October 11. She was found in a pasture near Winton Road in Cincinnati and brought to police headquarters by Patrolman Walter Zichenlaub. She admitted the name Phyllis Daeger age 18 and that it was assumed, and was dismissed on a loitering charge after revealing her identity.

Ohio parties report near equal spending in general election

Columbus November 17 40 expense reports filed in the secretary of state show the State Republicans spent 161 354 while the Democrats spent 161 383 in the general election. The Democrats led in receipts at 161 870 with 12 380 in bills owed the Republicans showing 151 354 received and 12 380 outstanding. Major contributors include Democratic National Committee 18 180 and Martin J Davey’s family 18 000. Notable donors include James M Cox 5 000 and Vic Donahey 590. Independent and party committees reported varying expenditures across statewide races and proposed amendments.

Missing UC Students Safe in Mountains

Four University of California students, two women and two men, were found safe in a mountain cabin after a weeklong disappearance in the Snow Mountain district. John H. Dempster, one of the missing, telephoned from a cabin on Elk Mountain to confirm all were safe. Deputy sheriffs A. J. White and Milton Perry were arrested in Logan, charged with conspiracy in the shooting of Brooks Carey at the Fire Department Building.
