Citizens felt tremors across the Mississippi basin on Thursday morning as a sequence of global seismic activity linked to volcanic eruptions. The writer humorously blames the Democratic party’s fate on recent events, noting no fear of an immediate recurrence.
The 95th anniversary of Grandma Bradley's birth was marked at the J. W. Dewees home near Daleton on Saturday October 26. Born in 1800, she is noted as possibly Athens county's oldest resident. She has outlived four husbands and all her children, and, though aging, remains a constant Bible reader able to quote scripture for hours. Nearly 100 guests, including great great grandchildren, shared dinner and hope to repeat the celebration next year.
Mr Ezra Goodspeed aged ninety on October 13 cast his sixty eighth consecutive vote early Tuesday morning in town. A staunch Republican since the party’s formation previously a Whig, he remains hale and active, inspiring hopes for his continued support of good government through the Republican ticket.

College notes record C H Copeland of Guysville entering college Monday and several campus figures at rallies and funerals. A Democratic rally at Marshfield featured Center Jush McCulloch, while students returned home to vote, thinning recitations early in the week. Coach Harvey Derne from Baltimore arrived Friday and begins work Monday, bringing prior St Johns experience.
