The Messenger of Athens county announces a vote for two diamond rings valued at $150 and two gold watches as second trophies for a lady and a gentleman. Votes come from clipped coupons and subscription certificates, with separate contests for men and women and daily public progress updates.
John R Porter aged 74 and more died Monday at 4 pm at the home of his son-in-law B F Dutton in Chesterhill after locomotor ataxia and Bright's disease, with a prior sun stroke. Surviving are a wife and ten children including Carl Porter Oral Porter Harry Fred Edward and others. Funeral held Wednesday at 2 pm at Orla Porter's 21 Franklin Ave with Rev Earl R Slutz officiating. burial in Union Street Cemetery.
Coroner Lane conducted an inquest into the death of Frank Braddock a 27 year old single patient at the Athens State Hospital. He allegedly hanged himself in the strong room of ward 18 after being transferred there for escape risk following his second commitment and Keeley treatment. The inquest examined his alcohol addiction and recent admission.
A Logan resident named Braddock was found dead by hanging, using his own belt. No testimony presented suggested another cause of death. the coroner will likely rule death by self-inflicted means when he reports the case.
Mothers who have dealt with this distressing ailment are told a cure may be effected by applying Cham berlain's Salve as soon as nursing ends. Wipe area with a wash cloth before nursing again. J F Beckler's funeral services were conducted at his Elmwood Place residence at 10 this morning. Local Elks and I O O F lodges attended, Elks services performed, Rev Boden spoke at the Christian church. Interment followed at Marshfield with I O O F rituals at the grave.
