The nest convention held in First Church Marietta was praised for hospitality, music, and good work by all contributors. The Athens people received hearty thanks for making the event a success, noted as one of the district’s largest and best conventions.

A massive hail storm hit Canaanville on May 24 blowing down trees tearing fences and flooding streets. Hail marbles covered the ground and melted quickly while rain fell in torrents in a cloudburst praised by locals who prayed for rain. Grant Crosen Killed by Cars in Yard Accident

Grant Crosen a Hocking Valley brakeman was instantly killed in a yard accident when standing on a box car as it was struck by moving cars. He was thrown to the track and the wheels passed over him, severing his body. Burial followed at Hebbardsville with funeral services held Monday. Crosen, about 85, left a wife and one child.

Rain Helps Prospects for County Crops After Rainy Weekend

Rain fell across the county Saturday and Sunday, reviving pastures hay and berry crops, while streams and wells recovered from drought. Farmers report improved corn prospects despite cutworm damage in some areas, with a large corn acreage and generally good planting outlook in the county.

Mad Dogs Rampage in Cannonville Area

On Bronday morning L Hoisington shot and killed a rabid dog and by evening another dog near the store acted strangely frightening residents. The rabies outbreak appears early and strong with several dogs killed and stock bitten along the river, Willow Creek, and between Cannonville, Guysville, and Amesville. Hinman Youngs escaped harm.
