Ohio road construction cuts blamed on funds shortage

Ohio highway director George F. Schlesinger told the Ohio State Automobile Association that new road projects will be reduced by one third from the planned program due to lack of funds. He blamed the legislature for stripping county and outlying areas, describing changes to transcontinental highway numbering in the state.

In Jorvis Michigan on May 21 1945 Andrew P Kelne known as the mad butcher of Bath was buried without funeral rites or friends. A plain wood coffin was lowered into the grave with flowers nearby and a pile of loose dirt beside it, no ceremonial burials performed.

Resolutions by the Mens Student council call for steps to end excessive drinking at farewell parties. A prior raid led to arrests of four men and one women student on drunkenness charges. Lindbergh ends western hemisphere farewell with a dramatic dive through St Johns Newfoundland harbor. He swooped low over the water and through a narrow canyon between two hills scarcely 200 feet wide, then turned eastward at high speed. The feat gave St Johns a vivid sendoff to the flight.
