Mayor Ole Hanson of Seattle called for cooperation between labor and capital to minimize industrial troubles, urging passage of the Lane law to employ workers first and develop homes on waste lands at cost. He praised evolving employer attitudes and urged a decisive, planned national road to progress.
The House Republican steering committee outlined ten key measures for the caucus, including repeal of the luxury tax, return of the wires, shipping policy, railroad settlement, suffrage amendment, national budget system, tariff revision, aid for veterans, public expenditure economy, and essential appropriations. Early action likely on appropriations, luxury tax, and suffrage.
Pleas of guilt entered by three men arrested Wednesday for intoxication when arraigned before Mayor Woodworth last evening. E Fenton of Marietta paid six dollars on a drunk and disorderly charge, Loren Williams paid six dollars, and John Graham settled eleven dollars. No arrests were made last evening or yesterday.
In Washington on May 16 Republican leaders vow no party breach as they seek to enlarge the steering committee from five to nine by adding four Speaker Gillett supporters to gain a Gillett majority. Democrats oppose ex-Speaker Clark and plan to press reform fights on the floor. The statement also notes plans for calcium carbide manufacture as a new industry in New Zealand.

General fund led with 2 693 86. county fund 1 073 55. recorder's fund 996 10. Disbursements peak in county fund 5 332 08 followed by road repairs 5 230 80 and Children’s Home 1 597 83. Dog taxes 72. liquor fund received none. 12 585 22 remains in undivided liquor fund near end of county saloons.

Five masked bandits robbed the First National Bank of Dalton NL sixteen miles from Chicago. They escaped with 30000 in Liberty Bonds 20000 in certificates of indebtedness and 10000 in cash after forcing assistant cashier W H Baker to open the vault. They locked Baker and a girl employee in the furnace room and then trapped a customer inside.
Washington May 15 Benedict Crowell director of munitions released an official report showing American factories produced about 20,000 airplanes annually after the war ended. He cited 11,984 planes finished for the U S with allies accounting for 6,158 and total 17,142. engines total 32,420 in 19 months. front strength 860 planes on November 11 1918.
