Disturbance interrupts address of Phillip Murray at the fair grounds as leaflets backing Daugherty are dropped from aircraft.
Thousands of miners and businesspeople heard United Mine Workers vice president Phillip Murray at the Athens County Fair Grounds as leaflets favoring Oral Daugherty circulated. Daugherty denied organizing a new group, urged unity with Murray, and condemned John L. Lewis while insisting he would stay with the UMWA.
In Logan on Monday Vance Brian escaped with superficial cuts and bruises after driving over the Hocking Valley Railroad embankment at the east end of Second Street and crashing into a barn behind Mrs. Blackston’s lot. He remained on the street Tuesday with only light vehicle damage.
In Indiana on May 10 Senator James E. Watson kept a narrow edge over Herbert Hoover as results from 3,283 precincts showed Watson at 196,31 votes to Hoover 174,915. The farm vote largely opposed Hoover while rural areas aided Watson. Arthur R. Robinson won the Republican Senate nomination signaling continued machine strength despite anti corruption challengers Arthur Gilliam and Solon J. Carter losing decisively.
United Press reports Senate Teapot Dome investigators praised John D. Rockefeller Jr. for seeking to remove Robert W. Stewart as head of Standard Oil Indiana. Senators Walsh and Nye, and the investigation directors, saw this as progress in a broader business clean-up, noting Stewart's 25 percent share in a $3,080,000 profit and linking the move to a Chamber of Commerce push for housecleaning.
Washington May 10 The federal trade commission utilities inquiry was told that the southeastern division of the National Electric Light Association spends 22600 dollars each year.
Governor Alfred E. Smith told the Senate campaign investigating committee he had not "done a single thing" to obtain the Democratic presidential nomination. Jones favored preserving the current route and praised the new AAA touring camp near South Bridge.
Glenn B. Southward told the American Mining Congress that mechanization raises annual coal loading from 15,000,000 to 18,000,000 tons after five years of experiments. The announcement was made in Cincinnati.

Petitions bearing the names of hundreds of residents in North Fairfield Huron County were presented to the state utilities commission in Columbus on May 10 protesting the Northern Ohio Telephone Companys proposed rate increase.
A flying machine bought by Ralph Young John Leper and Emmett Shuler visited Pomeroy as it was delivered from Ironton. The trio plan to base the craft at Cheshire and fly locally on fair days. Young has aviation training in Chicago and is said to be capable of piloting the plane.

Clarence Gatchel has obtained a position at Painesville and plans to move his family there in about two weeks. Day by day families are leaving the valley due to continued idleness at the mines and no prospects for a settlement this year. Hundreds have gone to other industrial centers and fields of labor.
The May grand jury completed its session with twenty two cases heard and sixteen true bills returned. Publicly named defendants include J Clark for abandoning an illegitimate child and others facing charges such as assault with intent to kill and armed assault. Craggs, superintendent of Hobson mine, allegedly beaten and dumped from a coal tipple. condition reported critical.
Charles Mullen of Meigs county election board announces that the Democrats of Ohio's Tenth district will meet in Gallipolis on Friday June 1 for a district get-together and to nominate a district ticket. Delegates from each county will attend and total attendance may reach about 200. Gallia county hosts the event, with many Democrats from the county expected. The organizing committee aims to make the day memorable in district circles.
General Umberto Nobile plans a reconnoitering flight today from Oslo to Leningrad via the polar dirigible Italia. The move follows reports confirming preparations for the mission.

Oliver James Miller a 22 year old carpenter was arraigned in Cincinnati on charges of criminally assaulting Vera Banfield a 20 year old telephone operator who was waylaid at Lockland. Police said she was beaten with a brick dragged into an alley and found Miller was arrested after officers saw blood on his hands and clothing He admitted attacking Banfield and also admitted attacking Esther Lawson 26 of Oswego Kansas who was visiting.
Eight foreign union miners are jailed in Noble county as state troops prepare to intervene after busses transporting non union workers were stoned and egged near Coal Ridge. National Guard officers investigated while 12 sympathizers were arrested for stone throwing. nails littered State Route 21, disrupting travel.
The Junkers plane carrying Baron Gunther Von Huenefeld Captain Herman Koehl and Major James E Fitzmaurice landed at Cleveland Airport at 12 12 p m today after crossing from Philadelphia to Chicago. Fifty thousand cheering people greeted them as they prepared to depart for Chicago in an hour. The aircraft arrived at 12 10 p m and was escorted by a three motor Ford vehicle.
