Ohio voters, Republican and Democrat, select campaign tickets for next November as the long primary ends. Polls open at 7 30 Eastern War Time and close twelve hours later as candidates for U S Senate, Congress, state offices, legislature and county offices seek nominations. Governor Bricker prepares to accept convention votes.
Ohio voters faced light early turnout as Roosevelt and Taft era candidates vied in a presidential year primary. Officials warned late day voting could set records while Bricker eyed the GOP nomination and a crowded Democratic field sought governorship and other offices.
Funeral services were held for 12 of 16 American fliers whose planes landed or crashed in Switzerland in the past four days after bombing attacks on Germany. The death toll in Switzerland totals 33 as fliers were buried at Munising where American authorities have acquired a plot for U S airmen.
John L. Lewis withdraws United Mine Workers bid to rejoin the AFL amid sharp charges that New Deal executives and AFL leaders blocked labor unity for political reasons. Democratic and labor leaders react with disclaimers as the breach widens in national labor politics.

The War Food Administration said sugar stocks on hand April 1, 1944 were 1,256,566 tons, 30 percent below a year earlier and the lowest for a similar date in many years, indicating little chance for ending sugar rationing or boosting allotments this year.
Whipple M. Shiplett age 48 of New Lexington was killed and Donald Henry Debout age 20 of Newark injured critically when their automobile overturned on National Highway ten miles west of Zanesville.
CHICAGO Workers at Montgomery Ward and Company voted on forming a CIO union to represent them in collective bargaining amid a labor dispute that triggered a federal seizure. About 5,000 employees were eligible to vote under NLRB supervision, with results to be released tonight as court actions over seizure proceed.
The United Steelworkers of America with a 200000 dollar political action budget opens its annual convention in Cleveland. Philip Murray, president of the union and CIO, calls the gathering possibly the largest labor convention in U.S. history with over 2300 delegates expected over five days. A separate report notes Marauder bombers completing their hundredth mission over France as the first Allied medium bomber to do so in this theater.
Allied forces pounded Japan’s outer defenses from Wake Island to Truk and Rabaul, hitting Guam and Ponape and sinking three freighters west of Truk. Central Pacific bombers struck Cape Hoskins Airdrome, and Chinese forces repelled Japanese advances near Loyang while air support aided ground operations in Honan.
Chicago police and the FBI linked a murdered woman found in a trunk to Louise Chestine Wright whose fingerprints compared to a woman arrested in southern states. The body had earlier been tentatively identified as Mrs. Louise Villegas. Brietzke noted past aliases and a Baton Rouge birth, while the Wright birthplace listed Myrtle, Mississippi on an ID.
SAN SALVADOR El Salvador General Maximiliano Hernandez Martinez resigns as president effective today aimed at restoring order after a general strike. The government had crushed a revolt killing 53 and wounding 134 with 25 executions announced. El Salvador, a small coffee country, declared war on Japan after Pearl Harbor and on Germany four days later. Cincinnati James G Cooper 73 father of former Ohio Governor Myers Y Cooper dies at home.

Russian storm troops battered the two Axis armies clinging to Sevastopol with heavy artillery and infantry assaults. German 56 planes were claimed destroyed as fortifications along the arc toward Inkerman and Mackenzie Heights faced Red Army pressure from all sides. A Red Star report said Russians broke through fortifications and moved within five miles of the city, with intense fighting and heavy losses on the German side. A midnight bulletin noted action also in Poland’s southeast near Stanislanow and in Romania west of Iasi.
In New York Democratic National Chairman Robert E. Hannegan said at a Jefferson Day dinner he is convinced President Roosevelt will run again and be elected to a fourth term. He noted it as his personal opinion and not a discussion of the president’s plans. Rep. Halleck dismissed the remark as Roosevelt’s own desire.

Targeted rail yards and airfields include Liege Thiomville Laon Couvron St Trond Florennes and Brest area with heavy Luftwaffe opposition minimal.
Mrs. Radie Elizabeth Santee Bailey aged 23, wife of Pvt. Randolph Bailey of Camp Wolters Texas, died Monday at her parents home near Long Bottom. Funeral at Success Thursday 2 PM with interment in the local cemetery. She leaves her husband, her parents Mr and Mrs Osty Santee, a sister Mrs Carl Allie of Parkersburg, and brothers Pvt Raymond Santee in Alabama and Earl Santee of Ghester.
