Officers Deny Call In Convict Escape
Logan authorities said they did not receive any 6 pm call about Rufus Deeds and companion Smith, two Ohio Penitentiary escapees, and denied being contacted by a local station owner or the Columbus office. Sheriff Ellinger and Deputies Farbearn and Spannow insisted no summons or visit occurred. They questioned whether any escapees had been in town and reported they had no information of such an incident.

Green Measures WLW Power After Step Up
Athens radio listeners noted WLW’s power boost from 50 000 to 500 000 watts making it the world’s strongest station. Prof D B Green of Ohio University measured field strength with a new meter. Readings: 770 microvolts per meter Wednesday morning and 1 950 microvolts per meter this morning, a 26 fold increase. Theoretically strength should rise about threefold since power rose tenfold and field strength scales with square root of power.
