In Gallia County probate court Mrs Chauncey Spires of Eno gained custody of her 16 year old daughter Freda Rupe after she testified that Mrs Robert Cottrell of Middleport posed as Ruth Johnson to lure the girl away. Cottrell admitted making false representations to obtain the girl and both Cottrells were jailed. A third woman from Middleport claimed to be Robert Cottrells wife.
John H Fahey chairman of the Home Owners' Loan Corporation said converting Ohio building and loan institutions into Federal savings and loan associations would unleash loanable resources. He argued the move would develop an effective lending program for repair and building at reasonable interest rates by making building and loan concerns Federal institutions.
Columbus May 2 Joseph H Sobell assistant director of the Ohio Liquor Control Commission announced the establishment of wholesale liquor stores in five additional cities. The move expands state controlled distribution and aims to standardize sales channels.

Paris dispatch reports police stormed an east side working men's quarter at dawn, capturing a block of apartments after Communist sniping. Returning from a fishing trip, Jack Hunt, Joseph Walburn, and Red Carsey of Athens were badly hurt when their sedan hit a parked, unlit, stolen car at Richland Avenue near the south end of South Bridge. Hunt and Walburn were treated at Sheltering Arms Hospital for multiple cuts and injuries. Carsey suffered a back injury. The two cars were demolished and bridge railing damaged.
Earl G. Reed of New York Central Lines told the Glouster Kiwanis Club that railroads paid 18 percent of Athens County's total taxes in 1982. He noted the New York Central Lines paid one third of that 18 percent and that transportation accounts for 25 percent of national income.

In Colauimbus on May 2 the liquor board ruled that beer cannot be sold to seated customers at baseball parks, enforcing a seating restricted beverage policy.
Major O. E. Braught, state director of the FERA, warned Meigs County striking workers to return to their jobs by Monday or the entire FERA program in the county will be suspended. The telegram to Henry Corradini conveys the ultimatum. County appropriations include 5000 dollars for FERA and 10000 dollars for direct relief.
Pomeroy Meigs County FERA workers and relief staff walked out at 10 am led by the Meigs County Unemployed League demanding a CWA based work relief program. Leader Pearl Bolin says league membership tops 2000 and urged nonviolence. About 35 FERA workers in Salisbury and Sutton Townships walked out. 65 on the Pomeroy parking lot project saw roughly 12 or so continue county trucks and the steam shovel. The league cited 12 demands including 50 cent an hour base wage and official recognition, seeking restoration of CWA style work under FERA.
Funeral services were held for Eleworth Weaver a Pig Pine farmer aged 46 who died after a horse kicked him in the groin last Saturday. He died an hour and a half later from internal hemorrhage. He leaves a son Far Weaver of Laurelville and two daughters Mrs Okley Steele of Laurelville and Mrs Herbert Dunkle of near the village. Burial was at Adeipni.

Cincinnati May 2 William Cooper Procter 72 soap manufacturer and philanthropist died early today at Hownes Hospital of pneumonia He was chairman of the board of Procter and Gamble and passed away shortly before 6 am after four days of illness.
