Mary Ann Jack remains seriously ill with doubtful recovery as neighbors observe the quiet of spring farming. Farmers report good weather, corn planters in full use, and wheat lagging. Apple and fruit trees bloom heavily, fruit growers hopeful for a robust harvest after insects were scarce last season.
Will Craft of Trimble visits relatives at this place. Carrie Spaulding of Marchmont stayed with Mrs. Gillett last week. School starts May 8 with Herbert Beckler as teacher. Lydia Cone of Athens spent weekend with her mother Martha Love. Ella Simms called home to Scatter Ridge due to mother’s illness. H C Robinson and wife visited relatives at Hooper Ridge. Robert Love and wife guests of Joseph Love’s family for a day. Martin Boyles returned home after two weeks with B F Huston. Rev J D Masters from Nebraska and Dr G H Masters from Prospect Ohio with Amos Masters and wife visited B F Huston one day.

David Rathburn and wife visited friends at Chauncey over Sunday. Miss Ella Mathews stopped school due to ill health. A. Stanley named trustee of Alexander township after J. L. Gift. Dr Pearl White of Chauncey stayed with Wm White relatives last week. Rev Wm MecElphatrick of Waverly and Rose Dean of Orange were guests of Frank Davis family. Joshua Woodgert, old soldier of Hibbardsville, suffers dropsy. doctor drew one and a half gallons. Farmers pray for rain. some have planted corn awaiting moisture. Charles White of West Virginia and Mrs Diana Hysell of Middleport visited here and Chauncey. Rev McElphatrick preached at I W E church to a large audience. He once lived near Harrisonville Meigs and visited childhood scenes after 30 years away.
Birth announced for John McLeod and wife a son born April 14 at Athens. Mrs Elinor Tucker dies at Strouds Run home April 17 aged 80. Rev A Sergeant of Wilmington preached at F M church. Mrs Nancy Bryan, aged, is dangerously ill confined to bed three years. Mrs Daniel Tucker sewed carpet rags last Wednesday with many ladies present. Magdalene Hubler moves back to farm on Federal Creek. Oil men leased land in area last week for potential oil strike. Sabbath school organized at Free Methodist church April 14 with KE M Brown elected superintendent Julia Stephenson assistant, D D Dowler secretary, M B Tucker treasurer.

Judge Sibley of Marietta granted a temporary injunction Monday evening restraining Sheriff Riley from selling Mr. A. R. Bell's personal property levied to satisfy F. C. Stedman & Company's claim against the late firm of Ryan & Bell. Bell contends the dissolution left Ryan responsible for debts and seeks exhaustion of Ryan's assets before Bell's property is used. Attorneys Emmett Tompkins of Columbus and L. A. Koons represent Bell.
In the Middleport Republican-Herald, Prof. B. O. Higley writing as Observer reflects on Athens early settlement and ongoing development. He notes many Meigs County natives contributed to the town’s growth, naming figures such as Mayor Wilson, Mrs. Samaria Palmer, J. Halliday Cline, D. H. Moore, attorneys Hopkins and Higley, and others linked to the State Hospital and Children’s Home.
