C F Herron delivering trees at McArthurland vicinity this week. Clara and Nora Pedigo of Nelsonville spent Sunday with their brother Dr Pedigo. H F McVay closed a term of school at Happy Hollow and is at home. A H Dixon and wife attended a wedding at Pleasant Hill. Mrs Pierce Phillips and others on sick list. Rev T J Wort and family returned to Dell Roy after visiting here. Cash Baughman erecting a large building on depot street. first floor business room, second floor city hall. We welcome such improvements.
Last fall a St. Louis range works canvassed Waterloo township visiting Mr. and Mrs. Hewitt. Mrs. Hewitt allowed a trial range, signed a paper she believed only identified the range owner. A note for 69 dollars arrived due April 1, and Mr. Hewitt paid to avoid litigation. The piece warns readers to beware signing papers for itinerant dealers and to patronize local merchants.
Marshfield schools closed on Tuesday April 16 featuring declarations recitations and quotations by pupils. Brief addresses were given by Rev. A B Craig and principal A H Dixon. Saturday's ideal day for a ball game saw Ohio University face Ohio State University in Athens. Ohio University, debuting, fought a tough match as Ohio State, 3-0 in prior games, relied on strong hitting and sharp fielding to pull ahead in the later innings after a competitive start. Attendance was modest, with some disputes noted over umpire decisions and crowd behavior, while the home team’s pitching and defense struggled at times.
A rough entertainment at Dr Veno's show in Athens city hall ends in a brawl as Dr Veno and Charles Black fight on stage after Black claims the punch. Police arrest Veno Black and Ayers. Veno pleads guilty and pays 22.10 in fines. Ayers bound over on assault charges. Black discharged. Also reported is a wedding at Pleasanton where Ellsworth Carskaden and Nellie Mason wed with relatives witnessing a rustic carriage procession. Carskaden is a clerk for A O Sloane.
On a Wednesday afternoon William Wilds found a decomposed male body in the Hocking river five miles north of town while plowing on William Shafer’s farm. The man appears 45 to 50, about five six, 135 to 140 pounds, with red tinged gray hair, bald head, and a smooth face. He wore coarse clothes with a vest and one suspender, no coat. Papers on the person may identify him. death cause undetermined due to decomposition. An inquest will be held after authorities transfer the body to Campbell’s undertaking establishment.
Mrs Will Hibbard of Frost visited friends here last week and Dr Patterson was welcomed to the congregation. A church social is planned for Thursday at Mrs Henry Zenner's. J F Ely, a popular student, leaves this week for Atlantic City. Several members and sick listed include Mrs Dr Powell Mrs Joe Daniels and Virgene Putnam. Ella Sheppard of Nelsonville was hosted here last Friday and Saturday. Dr Merwin and wife move to Canal Winchester for medical practice. George Batterson and George Brown elected to YP SC E. Lizzie McVay Gillilan and four children arrive from Salt Lake City to visit W W McVay. Pastor Dr Powell to serve as Lane Seminary examiner and departs with Frances.
Rev W J Jewett of Guysville visited town Monday. Junior Leaguers celebrate the start of their new library. Rev D Y Murdoch and Miss Helen spent Thursday and Friday in Cincinnati. Winfield Scott and wife visited Stewart Saturday to Monday. Epworth League Convention for Marietta District set for Belpre Thursday and Friday next week with Athens leaders on the program. Rev David H Moore preached to a packed house at the church last Sabbath. Rev F B Davis of Zanesville will preach both services next Sabbath and lecture in the college chapel. Mr Davis formerly studied at the university here.

Sickles for 175 dollars. Frank 8. Roach buys Lot 78 in Hudson's Addition from B. Sloane for 200 dollars. Susan C. Selby acquires Ux8 ft southwest corner lot 143 from Frank P. McVay for 850 dollars. Soda water dispensers prepare to open with new drinks this season.
