Death of Former Athens Resident Miss Jennie Thompson
Former Athens resident Miss Jennie Ewing Thompson died March 4 at her Chillicothe Illinois home after years of suffering. Funeral services were held Monday at the church conducted by Rev T A Beale with a quartet providing music. Interment followed at Sparlape Cemetery beside her mother. She is survived by her sister Miss Carrie Thompson.

Republican State Convention to convene in Columbus May 17 18

Fire damages residence of W H Farrell
A Wednesday morning fire at W H Farrell's residence just south of the south bridge caused about 400 dollars in damage. The blaze began in the cellar and was reported one headway when discovered. Athens fire department responded promptly with assistance from the stove hospital department. The cause of the fire is not known.

Two Fingers Cut Off At Coal Mine Accident
John Pidcock of Athens suffered the loss of two fingers on his left hand while caging coal at Luhing Thursday. A coal fragment struck his hand during the car removal, severing the fingers and necessitating knuckle amputation. He will be off duty for several days.

Miners vote against strike and accept two year contract
Miners across Indiana Ohio eastern Pennsylvania Michigan Kentucky West Virginia and Iowa overwhelmingly rejected a strike and approved a two year contract with operators. A total of 164887 ballots produced 98514 yes for the acceptance and 67373 for a strike. The joint scale committee met in Indianapolis to sign the pact ensuring two years of industrial prosperity in the bituminous coal fields.
