Dayton reports that James D. Shadbolt, a 55 year old former inmate and World War veteran, confessed to shooting Col. Vernon Roberts 53, chief surgeon at the Dayton Military Home, last night. Roberts was killed at his doorstep. Shadbolt fled, then hid in the Home Cemetery before police found him an hour and a half later.
Bluefield West Virginia June 30 A temporary restraining order stayed State Tax Commissioner from paying into the state treasury on July 1 the 240000 paid under protest by Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. The stations were held to be chain stores and were required to pay additional estate taxes. The case will be heard in September.
The Sharkey Carnera heavyweight boxing match in New York posted a gross gate of 202279.50 with 37528 spectators and 31753 paid admissions. Sharkey's shares stood at 860603.44 while Carnera's were 16377.28 net intake 163772.80 with 60 percent of net intake and other figures noted.
