Supreme Court Delays Pentagon Papers Decision

Daniel Ellsberg surrendered to federal authorities in Boston after informing about 150 people that he provided the New York Times with secret Pentagon papers. The Supreme Court extended its term without ruling on the case while continuing to ban printing parts of the Pentagon history. Ellsberg faces charges of unauthorized possession of top secret documents and failure to return them.

Ali Conviction Reversed by Supreme Court Vote 8-0

The Supreme Court reversed Muhammad Ali's draft evasion conviction in an 8-0 ruling. The court found his religious beliefs, based on Muslim tenets, justified as conscientious objector grounds. Ali, 29, had refused induction in 1967 and faced potential prison, later spared by the decision.

Agnew says Korean troop cut won't affect U.S. Vietnam drawdown

Vice President Spiro Agnew said Korea's plan to reduce its 48 000 troops in Vietnam won't influence Nixon administration withdrawal aims in Southeast Asia. Peril at Takeoff as DC3 Crashes Off Eureka Coast

A chartered DC3 with 23 aboard including 19 real estate salesmen crashed into rocky coastal waters near Eureka during takeoff. Ten bodies recovered, seven survivors, with six salesmen unaccounted for as search efforts faced high winds and four foot seas. Rescue included a survivor aided by a man on a surfboard.
