Girls softball tournament boosts autism awareness
Forty teams gathered at West State Street Park over the weekend to qualify for the National Softball Association World Series while raising funds for autism. The Jason Reed Play for Autism Softball Tournament, held Friday through Sunday, drew squads from Ohio Kentucky and West Virginia. Part of proceeds supported AFCADRE in Athens to fund a two week summer camp for children with autism and disabilities next year. The event was organized by Bryan Cooper and the Athens S.W.A.T.

Jackson man sentenced to life for raping child
Zachary R. Dunn, 32, formerly of Jackson, received life in prison without parole for rape and related charges stemming from a 2013 abduction of a 6 year old girl. He was found guilty on eight of nine counts and also received multiple consecutive terms for further offenses. The judge merged some counts and cited risk of reoffending and lack of remorse as reasons for the life terms.
