St Aloysius closes after 29 year athletic program ends
New Lexington St Aloysius High School ends its 29 year athletic program after the recent closing of St Housas Academy. The Catholic school, operated by the Stella Niagara Franciscan Sisters, housed 134 students with 24 resident students at the high school. The academy began accepting boys in 1961 and had long claimed state basketball glory, including the 1953 54 Class A Ohio title with players such as Bob Sagan and Mike Allen. The school joined the Midland Valley Conference last spring and had planned a full schedule for the fall. The final All Sports Banquet honored Fr Richard Dodd and Linton Lewis, the longtime principal buddying with the original coach.
