Apollo 11 flight receives a green light for a July moon landing. Commander Neil A. Armstrong and crewmates Edwin E. Aldrin Jr and Michael Collins endure extensive training, simulations, and reviews to ready for a July 16 launch and July 21 moon landing. Armstrong, from Wapakoneta, pushes for faster action amid planner delays.
Senate figures push for transparency on secret Vietnam peace talks and favor a compromise delaying ABM deployment while continuing work on missile defense. Fulbright urged Nixon to disclose negotiators and proposals, while others consider progress toward ending the deadlock on sites in Montana and North Dakota.
Ohio State University trustees vote to approve an $188 million operating budget for 1969 70, about $15 million above the current year. A fee increase of up to $106 annually could be needed if a legislature cuts subsidies, with Corbally citing a potential $60 to $100 rise to offset lost funds. President Fawcett noted the increase supports current university effort.

Saigon reports seven thousand allied troops sweep the Central Vietnam coast near Da Nang in Operation Pipestone Canyon. Since the May 25 launch, 332 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong have been killed, 51 captured, 152 weapons seized, with Marine losses at 31 dead and 240 wounded.
The U S Command announced two brigades of the 11th Infantry Division and a regimental landing team from the 3rd Marine Division will depart South Vietnam by the end of August. A Hawaii redeployment task force says the first unit to go is a battalion from the 9th Infantry Division about 900 men, slated for airlift to the United States for inactivation before mid July.
South Korea says it trapped a North Korean spy boat off Huksan Island, sank the vessel, and fatally wounded all 15 aboard. Kim Yong ki, 38, of Haeju, was captured on espionage duty. the agency reports two bodies recovered, efforts to raise the ship continue.
Benin City court fines Sura Olowa and Lawani lyantwara for shooting three young elephants without a license. They face $140 or six months in jail for the poaching and tusk theft from a forest reserve, according to a senior magistrate.
State Treasurer John D. Herbert appears to have begun a campaign for the 1970 Republican gubernatorial nomination. He spoke at Toledo Elks, where campaign pens bearing his name circulated to delegates and later surfaced at a Lima fund raiser. Herbert denied knowledge of the pens.
