Four H Group Is Second In Conservation Contest
Busy Four H Club of Point Pleasant earned second place in a state conservation contest sponsored by Sears Roebuck Foundation WV Department of Natural Resources and others. Jon Cooper said adult workers Mrs Charles Wedge and Mrs Pearley Sauvé guided the group. They received 300 to advance conservation efforts, including seeding a rough bank along Route 87 roadside park and building a shallfield on the Creston United Methodist recreation area. The outdoor facility benefits the community with evening and weekend use by adults and children.

Sentencing Date Set In Point
POINT PLEASANT June 14 has been set as the sentencing date for Cora Lee Lawson 37 of Pliny. Judge James Thompson Circuit Court found her guilty last week of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting of Philip Carter at her home on March 27. The West Virginia penalty for this verdict is one to five years in a women’s prison.

Car Plows Into Shop Between Open Doors in Point Pleasant
A car driven by Harry Lucas of Point Pleasant and owned by Jimmy Leonard plowed through the glass doors of the Shop A Minute store at the corner of Main and Sixth. The vehicle struck a rack, damaged a display, and continued onto Mart Street after the driver said his brakes failed. Leonard was arrested for hit and run after leaving the scene. the store damage estimate was not yet determined. Arlene Thompson, a clerk, witnessed the incident.
