Two honor certificates awarded for week work and 800 votes. Citadel of Honor 10 heavily stormed by supporters as figures show strong engagement and recognition from the organization.
Yesterday's certificates awarded Mrs. Johnson and F. E. Goldsberry with Goldsberry moving to second on the list. total votes cast reached 10 225.
Miss Margaret Curley died in a Cincinnati hospital Wednesday after tuberculosis treatment. She was aunt to Mr. James Walsh of south of Athens. Remains arrive today and go to Mr. Walsh’s home. Funeral services are Friday at St. Paul’s church with burial in the Catholic cemetery.
Mrs James Earich was taken to Grant hospital Sunday for an operation and operated on Monday. She is reported to be recovering nicely from the procedure.
Beverage dominated the pitching, holding the Tigers at bay as the All Stars rolled to a 9 2 victory. Tigers suffered 9 errors while All Stars made 4, with 5 hits to 3 for the Tigers and batteries listed for both sides.
A special cablegram from Odessa dated June 13 reports that the Black Hundreds have begun a massacre of Jews in the city and surroundings. The population is terrified as fleeing Jews are hunted and killed. Hebrew quarters are torched and hundreds are said to have been cremated in their homes. Hospitals are filled with wounded women and children.
Twelve lawsuits seeking damages totaling 120000 were filed Saturday June 8 in this county. Plaintiffs include Ex Judge Henry W Coultrap of McArthur Ex Senator 8 H Bright of Logan G W Holland of McArthur and Hon J M McGillivray of this city.
Miss Nettie Johnson wed Eugene E. Woodworth and Miss Lena G. Woodworth married Britton L. Hooper at a country home south of Athens. The Woodworths are of Athens with ties to U.S. Express and Athens High School. Hooper works for Swift Packing. About sixty guests attended the seven o'clock ceremony conducted by Rev. W. H. Boden. A wedding supper followed and the couples left by the eleven o'clock B&O train for eastern destinations. They will reside in Athens.
Miss Rosa Minear wed Dr William West MacFarland at her mother's Athens Ohio home in a full Episcopal ceremony. Rev Earl Slutz officiated before about 150 guests with pink roses, white peonies, and ribbons. The couple will reside in Pittsburgh after a wedding trip east.
Mrs. J R Sands received a letter from sister Nellie Barman of New York City recounting a dramatic naval visit. A flotilla of Japanese French Italian and American warships performed maneuvers on the Hudson with thousands watching. Flags flew as guns boomed and ships showed white and yellow on the American side while foreign vessels wore brown and gray. Vessels stretched for miles and a Japanese reception featured souvenir hungry visitors cutting buttons from officers coats. The ships had participated in the recent Russian war.
Ohio lost the second game to Ohio Wesleyan by 3 to 2 on Wednesday. It was the season’s first defeat as Ohio led 2 to 0 before late errors by Kaler and Coleman allowed three runs. Gullum pitched effectively holding opponents to four hits. The team returned this morning.
Elijah Stone aged 90 of Coolville died Tuesday at his home from ailments of old age. Funeral services will be at his residence Friday at 10 o clock conducted by Rev. Parkins of the M E church. Interment follows at Newbury cemetery.
The Southern Ohio Poultry Association invites members to meet in the new bank building room this evening. A large attendance is desired as several coop samples will be exhibited.
Older pupils of Miss Nellie Van Vorhes present a pianoforte recital at 8 o'clock in the auditorium with Miss Olive Brown as soprano to assist. Last evening the juvenile pupils’ recital was well attended and showed careful preparation. All invited.
A runaway horse attached to a cab frightened by fireworks dashed along West Union street after Dr and Mrs MacFarnland boarded the 11 o clock train east. The broken cab tongue toppled driver John Richards as the team halted at the Johnson barn on South Court street.
The third year pupils of Miss Minnie L Duckler will present a piano-forte recital in the auditorium Friday evening at eight. The event is free and expected to draw a large audience with performances by Miss Higgins Miss Dent Miss Lawrence Miss Bowser and Mr Speck.

In Glouster Ohio on June 12 1907 reports allege Mayor Gormley urged Democratic allies to back Republican W F King while opposing rival B F Swope. After Dems vote in the Republican primary the Mayor is said to push a Democratic vote June 15. Concerns over fines slot machine revenues and a shooting threat linked to Hughey supporters surface as residents demand accountability.
Members of the basketball team elected Thomas Hoyt Jones as captain for the ensuing year. Known as Tommy, he is a top athlete and popular on campus, having played football as end and quarterback before joining basketball this season. He belongs to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Virgil Wilmot, Phi Delt center fielder, sustained a badly sprained ankle yesterday afternoon while sliding into third. He is expected to be laid up for some time.
A 200 point pool match is scheduled at Idle Hour on Friday evening featuring Tun Kale, Will McCleery, George Van Horn, and Fred Fenzel. The game starts at 7 o clock sharp.
