Hartford dentist Dr Harold Guilfoyle petitions Superior Court Judge Patrick B O Sullivan to void life imprisonment for the murder of Mrs Clare Cavanaugh Gaudet. He seeks execution in the name of justice, claiming the trial court erred by not convicting of first degree murder four years ago. Guilfoyle, semi blind yet deemed sane, is jailed at Wethersfield Prison. His wife Matilda, once visiting, is now living near Philadelphia.

In Cambridge Ohio today 250 pickets confronted county officers at the Harryette Mine of the National Coal Company near town. Thirty two protesters were arrested as officers restored order. Sheriff Thomas Tracy halted further picketing and tear gas was used after a night gathering. Two women were also arrested.
A man calling himself Walter Penny of near Loveland Ohio was held by county authorities in the death of four year old Georgia Edith Studer. Dr. A C Rosen Loveland said the child died after drinking whisky while in the care of Andy Shepard’s household where Penny resided. The sister left Georgia with him while she went shopping and upon return the child was gravely ill.
Red Cross will not distribute government flour in Chauncey this week. A shipment was expected but is postponed. Regular distribution will resume next Monday afternoon, local relief workers say.
A Toledo family reports five generations under one roof after a son born Friday joins the Montgomery lineage. The child’s mother is a daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Montgomery of Toledo, who were married before eighteen. Grandparents Charles and the child’s grandmother are under 30. The fourth generation is John Montgomery of Toledo and the fifth is Mrs Malinda Montgomery of the Dicken Addition.
The economy bill faces a final Senate vote with claims of about 200 million in direct savings after trimming 48 million from World War veteran expenditures. A joint Congressional committee is kept to review the Veterans Administration and a reconsideration of payless furloughs is possible. The House already passed an economy bill saving 52 million.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that men may receive alimony from divorced wives, awarding George Barnett $15,000 from Jeannetta Barnett. The court noted that while wives are often the weaker vessel, there are cases where the reverse applies.
In the May 10 Republican primary recount, L. T. Palmer's votes dropped from 1,180 to 1,142 while Thomas J. Herbert stayed at 857. Other candidate totals shifted modestly: Bender 1,125 to 1,124. Martin 1,353 to 1,363. Reading 1,120 to 1,121. Sullivan 8049 to 806. Tetlow 2,863 to 2,8.
A series of meetings for farm wives under Athens County Extension Agent T. H. Johnson begins at Lodi High School kitchen at 8 p.m. Demonstrations will show economical home-made methods for sandwiches and salads with recipe booklets for attendees. Leaders are Mrs. Ray Bobo, Mrs. Farr Cowan, Mrs. Theodore Crawford, and Mrs. R. E. Sutton. another session is planned for June 15 at the Athens County Fairgrounds Grange Hall led by Mrs. Harry Jacoby and Mrs. Hiram Westfall.
