Democrats Push Oust of Meigs County Highway Superintendent

Meigs County Democrats in Columbus urged Governor White to remove A F Eiselstein as Meigs County highway maintenance superintendent and replace him with Albert Castor. Car theft chase yields license plate number

Pomeroy report says Saturday night B H Ewing an undertaker chased a fleeing car off Mechanic Street. Two men fled in a vehicle owned by D W Wells. They secured Ohio 216 087 as the license plate. The sheriff has charge of the matter.

Anglers' Car Stolen Off Cheshire Dam

John Romine, a man named Butcher and several Meigs County residents were fishing near Cheshire dam when a car parked on the Ohio side was stolen. The thieves crossed into West Virginia as the Mason County sheriff and state police pursue them. no arrest reported.

Gas well on Orr farm to be drilled by Wednesday

In Pomeroy on June 6 the long delayed gas well on the Paul Orr farm near Bashan is expected to be drilled by Wednesday. The project paused after the drilling company went bankrupt, then resumed recently under new parties following litigation.

Other Mines Will Resume Proclamation Enforced Wage Scales

The sheriff’s proclamation restricting mass picketing around No. 6 and No. 25 mines will be enforced. Boundaries will be set today. The detailed wage scale lists inside and outside labor rates, including loaders, drillers, and pumpers, with daily pay ranging from $2 to $5.25 for various roles.

Indiana University President Addresses Graduates On Conflict And Courage

Dr. William Lowe Bryan of Indiana University spoke at Memorial Auditorium about life as a continual war of quarrel competition and physical conflict. He warned against emotional shell shock from fear worry anger and hate and urged remedies like distraction play work faith and charity. The program included Mendelssohn music by a double trio, a president home reception, Torch and Crestbanquets, and a concert by the Ohio University Choir.

Francis C Phillips Dies at Lancaster Home

Francis C Phillips, 62, died Saturday afternoon at his Lancaster home after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at Hebbardsville at 1 PM Tuesday. He was born in Athens County, lived later in Salem Township Meigs County, and moved to Lancaster seven years ago from Albany. Surviving are his wife and eleven children, plus two brothers and three sisters. many grandchildren and in laws.

Bonus Army Contingent Passes Through Glouster to Washington

More than 100 bonus seeking veterans rode in motor trucks through Glouster on Sunday en route from Zanesville to Clarksburg West Virginia. They said no Communists were in their group and blamed unemployment for the march. They fund themselves by selling flags and donations, but would not seek aid in communities with local relief stations.

Equipment Arrives for Route 13 Improvements Glouster

A steam shovel and steam roller arrived to aid Route 13 work. The shovel was moved to Eddy land in Urbancrest for a deep cut near W. W. Bryson's residence to join the Corning-Glouster road. A 14-foot fill and a concrete culvert were placed, with cutting to begin soon. The roller was driven to Urbancrest under its own power.

Millfield Playground Dedication Attracts 300 in Chauncey

About 300 people attended the Millfield Playground dedication in Chauncey on Sunday afternoon. The Millfield Band played and an Old Time Orchestra performed. A ball game between Millfield Old Timers and Juniors ended 9 to 3 in favor of the Juniors.

Mrs. A L Preston reports the sudden death of her brother in law Ote Blakely of Jackson Michigan on Sunday. The body will be brought to Chauncey for burial with funeral arrangements to be announced. He leaves a widow, one son Jack, and three stepchildren, with Harry Tipton of The Plains as a half brother. Mrs. L. G. Cary Dies After Illness Near Trimble

Mrs. L. G. Cary aged 51 died at her home east of Trimble Sunday night after months of illness. She had back surgery in Columbus last Ladber Day, then lived at Sheltering Arms Hospital in Athens before returning home two weeks prior to death. Survived by husband L. G. Cary, three children Roy Cary Columbus Richard and Mabel at home, and five sisters including Mrs. L. J. Allegree Charlottesville Virginia and Mrs. David Jones Mansfield. Funeral arrangements not yet made.

Butchered Calf Found on Fierce Ridge Farm

A calf owned by G A Sayre at Trimble on Fierce Ridge was butchered during the night Saturday by thieves who removed all four quarters with hides. The remains were found in a ravine on Sunday morning as officers investigated.
