Logan reports 11 year old Logan Lester Ray Phillips of Murray City has been quarantined at home due to scarlet fever. J C Penney on Main Street suffered significant awning damage from a cigarette sparked fire, quickly put out by store employees.
The Hocking County 4H Club Council members were re elected at the annual training session and planning meeting held Tuesday evening at the East School. County agent Harold C. Ruggies and home demonstration agent Mrs. Emily Van Fossan announced continued members Reina Derr Logan Route 4 O V Monier Gore and others with new member Sam Nihiser Logan joining the council.
Logan reports real estate tax payments for the second half are slow. County Treasurer Ralph W Moorhead warns June 20 deadline unless extended by county commissioners. He will collect in Laurelville on June 7 and 8 and can be reached at Salt Creek Valley Bank during banking hours.
Hocking County veterans' service office conducted 255 interviews in May. John F. Buchanan, service officer, reported in the soldiers relief commission monthly activities. Fifteen disability claims were received with annual compensation of 4392 dollars and increases totaling 1296 dollars. The office handled 165 pieces of correspondence while writing 137 and processed three hospitalization applications.
A large crowd attended at the DAV VFW hall as Albert L. Croy state commander and Albert L. Daniels adjutant treasurer spoke on veterans affairs and the Veterans Administration. A potluck supper followed. Sam C. Buchanan Chapter 68 now lists over 200 active members led by Philip Devol.
