One Defendant Not Sentenced In Torture Robbery Case

Intruder kills couple at Carrollton farm home
In Carrollton an intruder killed John D. George age 39 and fatally wounded his wife Virginia 37 at their farm home six miles east of town. A 12 gauge shotgun was used. The couple were awakened by a noise as the husband investigated in the living room. The attacker fled in the Georges 1994 Dodge sedan, no motive established. The incident occurred after a prison breakout in West Virginia.

Home Burns. Three Injured At Ravenswood
An oil stove exploded in the home of Mr and Mrs Clarence Wheaton one mile east of Ravenswood burning the house and injuring three children. Eugene seven with serious burns, John three with forehead burns, and Mrs Wheaton with burns to the hands. Eugene’s clothing was torn from him by an aunt. The two boys were taken to Ravenswood Hospital where Eugene’s recovery was unlikely. Firemen could not save the home or furniture.
